Gravest Fears: Two Ghost Stories by M R James

“Didn’t you see it? A thing like a man? Hair all over him? And two great eyes to it?

You’re telling me you didn’t see that? Well you count yourself lucky, lad. You count yourself lucky…”

Cathedrals are seats of terror in these two thrilling tales by M R James, the master of the English ghost story. In The Stalls of Barchester Cathedral an ambitious cleric falls prey to an ancient curse built into the very fabric of the building he serves.

In An Episode of Cathedral History ill-advised restorations lead to the discovery of an ancient tomb. But what lies within? And is it only sleeping?

M R James’s wrote many of his best tales to read aloud to friends by candlelight in Kings College, Cambridge in the early 20th century; since early in the 21st, Robert Lloyd Parry of Nunkie Theatre Company has been keeping the flame lit.

“The perfect mix of humour, warmth, apprehension and profound unease. A most pleasing terror…” The Sunday Times

An Evening with Jack the Ripper

Whitechapel. 1888. Between August and November a series of women are brutally murdered. The identity of the killer remains a mystery. Until now..?
It’s the greatest unsolved case in criminal history. One that continues to confuse and confound. Generating argument, debate and a host of different theories.
Who was he?
What was his motive?
And how did he get away with it?
Was he a doctor, a sailor, a soldier or some kind of religious zealot intent on ridding the streets of vice?
‘An Evening with Jack the Ripper’ will delve into the sordid realms of Victorian London in an attempt to finally unmask the man, with the blackest of hearts, who preyed upon the most vulnerable members of society.
Award winning producer and broadcaster Steve Morgan has captivated thousands of people on his celebrated ‘Ripper walks’ through the east-end of London, where he retraces the steps of the notorious killer through the streets he stalked.
Now he has adapted the story for the stage and invites you to spend an evening in the company of Jack the Ripper and live to tell the tale.

A BIT ABOUT STEVE MORGAN…..

Steve’s obsession with the Whitechapel murders began in childhood and it’s one that he’s shared with thousands of others who’ve joined him for his celebrated ‘Jack the Ripper Walks’ through the east-end of London, where he’s enthralled, entranced and entertained people from all over the world.
A previous winner of Leicester Comedy Festival’s prestigious ‘Comedian of the Year’ and an award-winning producer. His career in TV and radio has seen him work alongside an eclectic mix of people such as – Michael Portillo, Noel Gallagher, Mariella Frostrup, Ian Wright, and Wolf from Gladiators (from the old series that is…..not the new one).
And now, having honed this show on the very streets where the murders took place, he invites you to join him on a voyage into the dark heart of Victorian London.

Angela Barnes

Angst

A brand new stand-up show from Angela Barnes, star of Mock The Week and Live at The Apollo.
Angela is a worrier. Whatever it is, she’ll worry about it. But don’t let that worry you – she’ll worry enough for the both of you.
This hilarious show has some stories of success and sound logic, but mostly features stories of unmitigated failure, a distinct lack of wisdom, a little bit of German and loads of jokes.

Award winning comedian Angela’s last tour Hot Mess received critical acclaim and was filmed as a special available on ITVX. Angela has also appeared on Channel 4’s 8 Out of 10 Cats Does Countdown, BBC’s House of Games and is a regular guest on Radio 4’s The News Quiz. Angela also co-hosts the popular comedy history podcast We Are History.

“She’s just a gloriously down-to-earth, straight talking and extremely funny comic”
